Another Epic Birthday

Mandy & I arrived in Santaquin Fri. night.  We left early Sat. morning with the Crenshaws for the fossil hunt.

We drove 32 miles west of Delta, then turned and went 20 miles on a gravel road.

The fossils are found in a limestone shale.

We used their rock hammers & they had a little one for Celeste.

We found the trilobites by turning over rock, splitting rock & finding ones that had popped out of the rock.

This steep slope provided some of the best finds.

We found 115 trilobites.

A trilobite is an extinct form of marine life that is 550 million years old and is known to be the 1st invertebrate life on earth.

These prehistoric life forms roamed the sandy bottoms of the seas and coral reefs in search of food.

After our productive dig, we had a picnic at a park in Delta.

Mandy got a router and polished the trilobites.

Sunday evening was my birthday party.  The Cummins came on their way home from Bryce Canyon.  My cake was an incredible road cut cake with geologic layers of brownies and cheese cake.

I got some wonderful grandkid pics.

Sat. night we got Santaquin fruit at the Red Barn.

I stopped in Logan on the way home to celebrate my birthday & Autumn's. (Calvin wasn't feeling well and was asleep.)
